Climate Change

As a suburban Texas native, I grew up with strong conservative beliefs. Most of these beliefs I still retain, but my views have changed on particular issues. I'm an eighth Choctaw (Native American) and am a strong believer in taking care of our environment so that future generations get to enjoy the same beautiful nature that we do. On February 21, 2010 the San Diego Union Tribune posted an article titled "Pro: Climate change is real; there is no debate." It starts off by stating facts about climate change and stating that there is no debate about them. It states that "Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas that acts to warm the planet." This basically states that the emission from cars, carbon dioxide, is put into the air and sits within a layer of the atmosphere and creates more heat within that layer and everything below it. The article goes on to state other facts about climate change and what causes it. It gives possible solutions to helping the fight against climate change such as leaning more on renewable resources and the use of solar panels. The ending paragraph acknowledges that American's in the past are know for their innovations and their success. That American's have the right tools to find more solutions to reducing our country's footprint.

I disagree with the policies that our current president has with environmental spending as he does not believe in global warming. A lot of people in power do not care enough about the funding for environmental policy and it's disheartening as a person of such a beautiful country and world as a whole.

  1. I really must agree with you on this subject. I, too, find it so disheartening that Trump signed an executive order on March 25, 2017 that eliminates many restrictions on the use of fossil fuels. He has been quoted many times that he is finally ending “the war on coal”. I am also more conservative leaning, but I was shocked to hear that Trump doesn’t believe in global warming. On twitter, he said “The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive”. Although he seems to have good intentions of creating more jobs. I think that we as Americans, can only speak up to our representatives and demand change and consciousness from those in office.

  2. Love speaks passionately about the environment and his concern for properly caring for it. He goes on to express that damage that is being done and his disappointment in our government for what he sees as a lack of action on their part. It would appear that he is extremely disappointed in our President and in his lack of belief in global warming.

I believe that Love is genuinely concerned in the welfare and the environment that we are living in and in the apparent state of decline that it is in. I don’t think that our President is necessarily against supporting environmental change, I just think that he may have a different view on this subject and may be pursuing solutions in a different manner.

I do disagree with trying to point it towards the President as a negative thing though. The President himself is limited in what he can do. Everything that is done must pass through Congress first. Everyone knows that. According to an article on SNOPES, Al Gore, one of the most well-known environmentalists, has a home that consumes twenty times more electricity than an average household in an entire year. I think sometimes we get confused with what someone says, and with what a person actually does in real life.

Being the President is not an easy thing. There are millions of people watching your every move on a daily basis. Sometimes, they are not able to fufill all of the items that they have on their agenda.
